May as well say it.
We've been dancing around this idea at dKos for a while, but I suppose someone should come out and say it -- the fundamental purpose of the Teabaggers in Congress is to destroy the Federal Government's ability to function, including its ability to make war to protect our borders.
And that is treason.
The debt ceiling crisis goes to the fundamental purpose of government. At its heart, the state is a bank attached to an army. A modern state is a bank, an insurance company, and an army. And now I have encapsulated 300 years of political economy -- the movement from the bank/army to the bank/army/insurance company model.
We already know that Republicans want to get rid of the insurance company, thus granting us the lifestyle of those super-wealthy Europeans before Otto von Bismarck came along in the 1850s.
But now we know that they want to move us to the period before coinage. The fundamental purpose of a government is to borrow money to fight wars. Even the most mini of the minarchists will reserve the power to raise armies and levy revenues for that purpose. And trial and error has shown us that the only way for that to work is for the government to have both the authority and the restraint to borrow money through the financial markets.
Fundamentally, the Teabaggers want to make the Federal Government incapable of the most basic of tasks, the defense of our borders. And if that isn't treason, I don't know what is.
A trillion dollars for defense, not a penny for tribute. And FFS, let's have a real conversation about what this whole crisis is over -- whether or not Teabaggers are willing to live in a democratic country which is capable of electing an African-American President. Or whether they'd prefer to destroy it.
