The speculation has been out there for awhile.
Randy Moss, the talkative and freakish wide-receiver cut by the New England Patriots last year has bounced around the league ever since. He still needs a landing spot.
A very knowledgeable friend of mine pointed out that Braylon Edwards appears to be gone, leaving the New York Jets with only one quality wide-receiver in Santonio Holmes. With the salary cap hitting the Jets especally hard, they could and probably should be in the hunt for a bargain at wideout. That'd be Randy Moss.
The rivalry between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots is relatively new but quite exciting. A good storyline goes well with a game, and the storyline right now is that the Jets and Pats are in a free-agency "arms race". Right now, the Pats are winning; they have done some things quietly, but have also of course acquired Haynesworth and Ochocinco/Johnson. Both players are considered problematic for different reasons, but they both have one thing in common; they are high-quality players who have been stuck playing for teams that have never had a chance. Ochocinco has never played for an elite quarter back. Haynesworth has never lined up alongside an elite lineman like Vince Wilfork. Neither Ochocino nor Haynesworth have ever had such a good chance of making it to their first Superbowl. I predict they'll be motivated.
As for the New York Jets, they tried and failed to bag Asomugha; considered one of the best cornerbacks in the league. After that spectacular failure, the Jets need to do something exciting. They're focused on getting Cromartie back to preserve the corner-slot that they wanted t stick Asomugha into, but that won't really compare to either the Patriot acquisition of Haynesworth or Ocho... and again, due to the salary cap, the Jets may not be left with much for options for that second wideout. Which brings us back to Randy Moss, which would of course just make this rivalry all the more exciting.
