Tax hikes to be the subject of intense debate in U.S. debt ceiling summit
by Lee-Anne Goodman, The Canadian Press -- July 06, 2011
[...] Nonetheless John Boehner, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, was talking tough on the eve of the summit. The meeting will prove "fruitless," he said, if Obama continues to insist that tax hikes on oil and gas companies and the wealthy must be part of any agreement.
"The American people simply won't stand for it. And their elected representatives in Congress won't vote for it," he said in a statement.
"The American people don't want us to raise taxes."

Our surreal debate over taxing the rich
by Greg Sargent, washingtonpost.com -- 07/06/2011
[...] The American people have declared in poll after poll after poll that they think the deficit should be addressed through a combination of spending cuts and tax hikes. Yet Republicans are simply refusing to entertain the possibility of any revenue increases of any kind [...]

Say Speaker Boehner perhaps you should check a few of those Polls, before you presume to speak for what MOST Americans really want.
Here's a Hint: Most Americans are NOT in your Tax Bracket, Mr. Speaker ...
Here's a primer for you:
