Verizon is back at the bargaining table with the CWA and IBEW, the two unions that represent its 45,000 striking workers. The question is whether Verizon is willing to negotiate in good faith, or whether it will continue to demand enormous concessions from its workers.
A bargaining report posted late Tuesday night indicated some signs of possible progress:
After two days of discussions at high levels of the Union and the Company, the Regional Bargaining Committee will go back to the bargaining table tomorrow in Philadelphia.
The decision to bring back the committee was made because we received a commitment from the Company that they will get serious. Time will tell if they are telling the truth.
Progress doesn't mean it's time to let up. It means it's time to increase the pressure, to let Verizon know that the striking workers have the support of Verizon customers and community members, not to mention of taxpayers in the country that is giving Verizon huge tax benefits.
Take a minute to sign our petition urging Verizon to bargain in good faith and letting the workers know we're standing in solidarity with them. If workers are striking in your area, show your support by locating a picket line and joining it. (Many, but not all, picket locations are listed on that map.) But wherever you are, you can sign the petition.
