Polls have just closed in Wisconsin, where voters are deciding whether to retain two Democratic state senators in the final (for now) batch of recalls:
• SD-12: Jim Holperin (D-inc) vs. Kim Simac (R)
• SD-22: Bob Wirch (D-inc) vs. Jonathan Steitz (R)
Results: AP | Journal Sentinel
6:14 PM PT: While we're waiting for results from Wisconsin, some good news out of Maine: Democrat Kim Monaghan-Derrig held House District 121 for us in a special election. It was a fairly blue seat, so a Dem win was expected, but still good nonetheless.
6:17 PM PT: As is often the case, various county websites report results more quickly than the AP. Tonight, Kenosha County is already on the board with some very early results (just two precincts) that have Republican Jonathan Steitz up four percent.
6:27 PM PT: First precincts reporting in SD-12, out of Forest Co. Holperin up 56-44, but this is liberal territory.
6:35 PM PT: I need to clarify that last update. The portions of Forest reporting so far are only "liberal" as compared to the rest of the county. The parts we've gotten results from actually are not liberal at all — David Prosser scored 58% here. So Holperin is doing way better than JoAnne Kloppenburg did in this section of Forest Co., and that's good news for us.
6:39 PM PT: Some bits of Shawano Co. just came in, and as with Forest, Holperin is pulling votes equivalent to Prosser's haul. If these trends keep up, Simac be in trouble.
6:43 PM PT: Good news out of Racine in SD-22: Bob Wirch is running four points ahead of Kloppenburg's performance. That's a good sign, considering #KloJo won the district.
