Dear Mr. President.
On your post Labor Day speech you can suggest this to Congress
* Stimulate the economy by helping Small Businesses Advertise.
* Jobs and revenue in a small business is directly tied to their advertising dollars.
I sell window treatments. I'm not lobbying for the advertising industry. This is only a small business owner idea to help our Economy.
... A simple man owned a restaurant on a rural road. He heard times were hard, but he was always putting up new signs and was looking to hire new employees, he was even looking to buy a property down the road to expand because his restaurant was doing so well.
Then one summer his young educated son came back home on vacation and asked his Father; "Why are you spending all this money on new signs and employees, haven't you seen the news. We are in a crisis, you should save your money, cut your costs, etc etc."
The wide eyed Father listened as his son laid out the doom scenario. He responded... "I hadn't heard it was this bad, your Mother and I watch very little TV". He then followed his sons suggestions, he did not look to buy any more property, and stopped hiring new people. He stopped putting up new signs and his business then followed what was really happening on the TV News as his Restaurant stopped growing.
I'm not saying it's great out there, and it's probably simplistic to say that 90% of people still have Jobs. But the Sun keeps rising everyday, streets are full with people, highways are full with trucks.
Could we just get over our paranoia, pull our bootstraps and get to work?
I have cut my advertising spending, big time. I could use a little help.
- Give Google and Yahoo tax breaks in exchange of huge deals on Pay Per Click advertising.
- Ask big printers to give Groupon type deals for postcards, and give them some tax breaks for postage rates and fulfillment.
- You could even have the US Government Printing Office help business print advertising. Talk about an Administration friendly to Businesses.
- Ask TV networks hungry for ratings to have free local advertising slots, and flash local and small business ads in 5 seconds spots.
- Have the Small Business Development Centers offer free market days in their conference rooms so local business can set up small folding tables and pass out business cards.
I'm sure there are plenty of smarter people out there that can come up with better ideas, we just need someone to follow through, and put them to work in real everyday life
Respectfully.
