Some of who've interacted with me on DailyKos know that I'm probably more of a moderate than a progressive.
But one area where my support has never wavered is with respect to unions. So I was overtly pissed when Senate Bill 5 passed through the Ohio General Assembly. I was livid. I even shed a tear, because it was easy to see that the assault on workers was contiuning.
And Average Joes were complicit in that assault, blaming public workers for the state's woes. I've always been of the opinion that people who bitch about unions are pissed that they're not in one. It's basic jealousy.
But I digress.
Kasich, our fearless leader in Ohio, has faced the reality that SB5 will likely be repealed.
A Quinnipiac poll shows this:
Opponents of Gov. Kasich's legislation to limit collective bargaining for public employees retain a 56 - 32 lead in the expected November referendum, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.
As for Kasich's popularity? Less than a year into his term and he looks like a one-term governor:
"Gov. John Kasich is sinking lower in the eyes of Ohio voters, dropping from an 11-point approval deficit two months ago to a 15-point deficit today," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Even after the state budget has been approved as he promised without raising taxes, and even though the Quinnipiac University poll finds that 63 percent say they favor such an approach, Gov. Kasich's name remains mud in the eyes of the Ohio electorate.
Not a big surprise considering this is the same mental midget who threathened to run opponents of his policies over with a bus.
However, if nothing else, he's consistent. His arrogance rolls on. Kasich knows that SB 5 is likely to be repealed in a November referendum. The law, which strips collective bargaining rights from public employees, has yet to go into effect and if the poling data is to be trusted it never will.
So what has the good governor done? After getting his cronies to ram the law through, he NOW wants to compromise. Yes, Johnny Boy, you're probably going to lose this one and NOW you want compromise. Rightly so, those behind the effort to repeal the law have refused to meet with the governor until the assembly strikes it down. When they didn't show up for an obviously staged meeting Kasich called for today, Gov. Pissing in his Pants quoted Woody Allen:
90 percent of life is showing up adn they've flunked that test.
I have a quote in mind for the governor to consider from the immortal Cee Lo Green. I'm sure you all know it.
