You are in the 247th Witness Revolution diary, bearing witness to pro-democracy movements in North Africa, the Middle East and beyond. We aim here to simply report, from as many reliable worldwide resources as possible, on the successes, challenges or failures of the brave people striving against oppression for representative democracy with civil and human rights. One small bit of assurance that they do not strive in obscurity. Please see the 200th edition where participants shared what this series means to them.
We interrupt our live-blogging focus on Libya, to interject our regularly scheduled update of all of Arab Spring. You will see in the comments that we have a practice of beginning the subject with the country name to enable scans of a particular location of interest. With rapidly unfolding events in Libya, we don't expect Libyan comments will consistently get this treatment, but it would be very helpful to maintain it for non-Libyan comments. Thank you.

YEMEN
The truth behind the mysterious case of the Massacre of Dignity
my best interpretation of rough Google translationOn the 18th of March, 53 peaceful protesters were killed and nearly 600 injured. It has been nearly 100 days and the investigation is going nowhere in the courts.
The next part was very confusing because of horrible translation. If someone reads Arabic, I'd appreciate some assistance. It sounds like the people believe that the government is making a sham of trials. That the government has claimed a different number of defendants at different times, may have let some go because they are related to prominent people. It may also be that young people who were part of the protests are being set up to take the fall, rather than actually prosecuting the people responsible. Here is the most coherent section:
For his part, lawyer Abdul Rahman Al Berman is the defense for the Martyrs Fri dignity of the center said that prosecutors are complicit in order to cover their tracks and remove the key suspects for prosecution and punishment.
He pointed out that the prosecution presented a great number of the defendants did not make even an effort to investigate and prove the charges and the search for evidence against them than would be expected that Egged judge evidence against many of those accused 78 defendants but has not been investigated with the main culprits, such as the commander of Special Forces and the Central Security as snipers masked follow these directions.
Berman said the article that the Attorney General refused to refer the case to the Court only after the completion of the investigation.
Note
It is worth noting that Yemen has not signed the Rome Statute and by the International Criminal Court, which depend on the Security Council the implementation of the decisions to arrest the suspects, according to the Rome Statute, the International Criminal Court calls for local governments of the Member States in the court which amounts to 101 members with the exception of a number of countries, including Yemen that have not acceded to the Rome Convention and by the course of the trial and betting it may not be the best options.

GENERAL ANALYSIS
(h/t JustJennifer 8/25)-
The Arab Awakening
When Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in rural Tunisia on December 17, 2010, he set in motion a dynamic that goes far beyond the overthrow of individual dictators. We are witnessing nothing less than the awakening, throughout the Arab world, of several phenomena that are critical for stable statehood: the citizen, the citizenry, legitimacy of authority, a commitment to social justice, genuine politics, national self-determination and, ultimately, true sovereignty.

That all ended on April 11, 2011, when the Gbagbos, their son Michel and their remaining entourage surrendered to rebel forces and were taken from their stronghold in the presidential palace in the country's de facto capital, Abidjan. It was the conclusion of a five-month-long postelectoral crisis that saw at least 3,000 people die in horrific brutality. Husband and wife were separated and held in different towns, away from their power bases. Laurent is held in Kohorgo, a scorched, dusty town some 310 miles (500 km) north of Abidjan. For years after Iran’s 1979 revolution, Iranian journalists working for Western news organizations engaged in a balancing act when reporting from inside the Islamic republic. As Iranian citizens whose passports, language skills and social networks gave them greater access than other journalists had, they also faced harsher consequences if their reporting went too far. But as long as they avoided crossing certain “red lines,” in general they would experience nothing worse than harassment and intimidation. Some portion of the government still cared about Iran’s international image

1. we invite you to join our wiki. (we'll need an email address from you)
2. you choose 1 or more countries you wish to gather citations for
3. go to the page of that country, click EDIT,
4. copy the mini template and fill in what the red text prompts
5. click SAVE
We're working on a publication schedule: Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday. Ideally we would see fresh citations in the wiki by late evening the day before. That is, posts from late Monday evening would be published in Tuesday morning's diary. (If you'd like produce a diary on a different day of the week, we'd love to show you how to update the template and paste it into your diary!)

NOTE: We renamed the original "Egypt Liveblog" to "Witnessing Revolution". From Egypt the pro-democracy fire spread rapidly. It's not clear that it will be limited by geography or ethnicity. So, we wanted a name which states what is happening yet allows us to grow with the movement, wherever that will be. The number sequence will be continuous. The group name will remain the same. Only this particular diary series within the group changed names.
