We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at TopComments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But we hope they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.

I messed up this week, forgetting yesterday (and indeed, for much of today) that I still needed to nail down a diarist for tonight's Top Comments. The end result being that I sent out a frantic call just after 7pm tonight, since I had to leave the house for about two hours, and suddenly realized there was no one on the schedule.
By the time I arrived home at 9pm, there was still no one on the schedule; it isn't surprising that no one responded, since it's the start of the final regular weekend of summer, and people tend to be busy enjoying the last gasp of summer, especially those on the eastern seaboard who are facing the advent of Irene in the next 48 hours, and won't be able to enjoy large parts of Saturday and Sunday. (Or, for at least one of our diarists, tonight.)
I'll be getting some non-perishable items tomorrow, even though it doesn't look as daunting for Eastern Massachusetts if the storm remains on its current track, in part because storms tend not to track exactly where predicted, and tend to be the most perverse when you've made the least preparation. As one who likes to have an umbrella available if the weather is predicted to be the least bit threatening, it would be foolish not to be prepared for the absence of electricity or internet connectivity. (Which means, yes, I need to get a Sunday diarist lined up sooner rather than later.)

We received only one comment nomination today. Might it have been people rushing to complete their hurricane preparations? It's a theory, I suppose, but there's a lot of the country that isn't along the east coast, so I'm not sure it's plausible. At any rate, the address of our mailbox for top comments submissions—and we'd love to receive more good ones—remains:
TopComments AT gmail DOT com
(change " AT " to "@" and " DOT " to ".")
Anyone can send great comments to our address. Be sure to include the direct link to a comment—the URL—which is available from that comment's date/time; we need that to find your choice. Please always include your Daily Kos user name in the body of your message, so we can credit you properly. If you send a writeup with the link, we are able to include that, too, though we reserve the right to edit.
From Catte Nappe:
This is such an excellent idea, I think it deserves all the play we can give it. (Idea courtesy of TheGrandWazoo.)
From sardonyx (your unscheduled Friday diarist):
In Badabing's diary Dick Cheney: And Condi Rice Came in and Cried to Me, the Dickster is on a hype tour trying to boost his potential royalties, and goes as far as to say that his tome will have "heads exploding all over Washington." kck points out why this statement, like so much Cheney has done, is ill-advised.
Barbara Morrill's front-page diary, With Hurricane Irene ready to strike, Ron Paul says we don't need FEMA, the perennial presidential pretender wants us to go back to 1900, and Trix initially approves of the idea, but after grover replies, asking about meeting Paul's grandparents, Trix has some sage advice.
Sandy Berman's diary on US Industrialists helping to bust Mexican unions sparked this excellent comment from G2geek on fighting the strategic class war.
ivorybill on Ahmedinejad's big lie about the Holocaust to divert attention from his misrule.
