Those of us involved in organizing the Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action know it would not have happened without the strong support of Diane Ravitch. She supported us early and often, mentioned the march in every public appearance for months, and gave us half of her $20,000 Moynihan Prize at a time when finances were tight.
She has since publication of The Death and Life of the Great American School System (which I reviewed here become a hero to and an advocate for teachers.
Thus it was appropriate that she was our last professional speaker before our headliner, Matt Damon, was introduced by his mom, Dr. Nancy Carlsson-Paige of Lesley University.
Allow me to offer the two Youtube clips that comprise Diane's speech last Saturday. Listen, enjoy, and pass them on.
I am honored to share these words of my good friend Diane Ravitch.
