Top-level White House sources have confirmed that when President Obama told the Republicans to "eat their peas" during debt-limit crisis, he was actually making reference to an incident that occurred last month in the White House. One evening during family time, the President tried to play a trick on Bo, the Presidential dog. When Bo was momentarily distracted, the President picked up his favorite bone and concealed it nearby. His daughters watched horrified as Bo searched in vain for that favorite bone. They then began stamping their feet in anger and demanded the President of the United States eat all of his peas!
Which he did.
Our story continues below the DKos thingy.
Apparently, the President often tries to employ this type of tactic, sometimes referred to as a "joke". As everyone knows, of course, jokes are subject to interpretation.
For instance, when the President makes a joke about Republicans, Democrats are supposed to laugh and Republicans are supposed to be offended. When the President makes a joke about young people, old people are supposed to laugh and young people are not supposed to get it.
But he often goes further than that. For instance, this same top-level source admitted he could remember the President making a joke once about the weather right after climate-change deniers had issued a press release asking why it was so cold last winter. His advisors were appalled; apparently they had been thinking of opening some avenues to the climate-change denial bloc in case they needed the votes in 2012.
Advisors have also had to repeatedly block the President's ideas for jokes involving any current topics because it might offend someone, somewhere. A little known fact is that he spent almost all of his book income last year to purchase the Henny Youngman joke catalog. Advisors had to force him to not use those jokes for fear of riling up the violin bloc, again because the votes may be needed in 2012. Some of the jokes were considered "not Politically Correct" as well, despite their age.
But his woes continue. Today, on his 50th birthday, he told a joke about AARP and turning 50. He had assured his advisors he would use the "Depends" material, but he apparently just couldn't resist. Word surfaced immediately that 13,247 Daily Kos regulars had tried to cut off their thumbs in protest over the obvious allusion to ending Medicare, operating under the well-known political aphorism "Only the devil mentions Medicare in a joke". Admittedly, the attempt failed because they had only input devices to use for cutting tools, but photos posted on the Daily Kos website did show some very raw and reddened thumbs. Hopefully infection will not set in. It is obvious that inflammation has already occurred.
