"A politician thinks of the next election - a statesman of the next generation." - James Freeman Clark
In 2010, all we heard from men and women running for Congress was how they were going to help people like you and me. If elected, they would repair our crumbling infrastructure, protect our jobs and restore America to its former glory.
Instead, everyday folks have gotten only headaches and hard times. In my own district, we were promised a repaired bridge that was way over due, and rather than try to come to a bi-partisan agreement to fix this crumbling bridge, my Congressman, Geoff Davis, seems to think we need to deregulate concrete companies so they can repair the bridge at a lower price. If these are the same forms of deregulation on concrete which caused the BP oil spill, no thank you Congressman!
We need leaders who will work for our future, not argue over whether the right or the left score political points. Like James Freeman Clark said, "A politician thinks of the next election - a statesman of the next generation." I want people in Washington who aren’t more worried about which Wall Street con-artist will fund their focus group re-election ad rather than what is best for my three girls.
The only winner in 2010 was hypocrisy. In 2012, we need to elect statesmen (and women!) who know America needs action, not partisan political rhetoric. You can make sure this occurs by giving Heartland emPOWERED the resources it needs to have grassroots efforts for true statesmen (and women!) to beat back the media-monsters of these special interest puppets.
We need to raise $5,000 by this Friday, September 30th to continue building our grassroots local efforts across America’s heartland. Your donation of $20, $30, $50, $100, $500 or more will get us to that goal!
P.S. Check out our website over the next few days to see how we are making creating grassroots change NOW!
