... and see what you get.... One lesson from Sun Tzu, you never yield superior ground that has been paid for in blood, just because you are afraid of what one might think the enemy might do.
Deciding what words to use to describe Social Security would be dangerous ground, Sun Tzu says that on dangerous ground maneuver, this is what the GOP is doing, they are trying to maneuver the Defenders of Social Security into a position, that is a place and time of the GOP's choosing, in which to do battle.
The Defenders of Social Security are on the high ground, a tactically superior position. Social Security is an entitlement that operates as an insurance program. You paid for it, you earned it.
We shall never yield high ground to the GOP, our ideas are better, they actually work. Don't ever forget that. We are entitled to Social Security, why would would any one want to yield that point? Why yield that point to the enemy? Why yield this point to the GOP, when we know they want to gain advantage in the fight to destroy Social Security?
Sun Tzu says when on dangerous ground maneuver, when on deadly ground fight.
What the great Chinese General is referring to is- one should never let the enemy pick the time, place and terrain of a fight, they will choose to their advantage, not yours. SO when the enemy tries to maneuver you to their choice of terrain, its a trick.
The word entitled is found 26 times in this document :
DISABILITY INSURANCE BENEFIT PAYMENTS
The original 1935 law, The Social Security Act (Act of August 14, 1935) [H. R. 7260] In the 11 titles of the law, the word entitled is used 9 times.
That is our high ground, the tactically and strategically superior ground that from which we have chosen to defend Social Security from. Since the days when Social Security was a nascent idea put forth by 2 Economics Professors at the University of Wisconsin called the Wisconsin Method, to today, over 75 years later this is the inherent strength of Social Security, it is a insurance program we pay into and are thusly entitled to. We earned it.
There are those who think Democrats need to yield to the GOP use of the word entitlements, that we should yield a strong position that was fought for and paid for by generations past. Sidney Hillman would turn over in his grave, as would FDR and the 2 Professors whose idea grew up to be Social Security as we know it today.
Lets not be maneuvered to ground that from which we will then find it far more difficult to defend Social Security from.

"That SS is an entitlement, is one of SS's inherent foundational strengths."
