Last night, watching the Republican debate, my stomach turned. This was truly one of the most sickening sights I can remember, watching this cabal of GOP know-nothings and dangerous dingbats gleefully flaunting their bigotry, stupidity and bile across a stage in a forum seen by millions in this country and around the world.
Tonight, the American people will get a chance to meet another man, one who stands against these lunatics, the ONLY ONE who is capable of marshalling the forces of good, science, knowledge and true patriotism for the advancement of our nation, now mired in a terrible recession-depression.
Mr. President, I humbly beseech you, don't let this opportunity pass without making the most of it.
My conclusion below.
The last thing I want to see tonight, Mr. President, is your big happy smile, your glad-handing and your propensity for making light of tense moments.
Mr. President, following last night's Republican debate debacle, the nation must see you, imagine you, as the one capable person of leading this country. They must see you, not as their friend or drinking buddy, not as the bipartisan pixie with happy dust for everybody, but as our sober, serious commander-in-chief.
No jokes, please. No banter, please. Just straight talk. Tough talk. Name names! It's "Republicans," for God's sake, who are dragging this country down, not "Congress"!
Seize this moment, Mr. President, and you will sweep these malicious lightweights away. But use this moment to try to strike a new deal with them, or bring yourself to their level, and you're sunk.
Mr. President, you can do this. You can strike now, while the moment is PERFECT.
Give them hell.
It's game on.
Put some points on the board.
