Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) talks to Buzzfeed about being a woman in politics, and while Gillibrand is widely believed to have presidential ambitions, she says she has another priority for the 2016 presidential race:
I'm going to be one of the first to ask Hillary to run in 2016. I think she would be incredibly well-poised to be our next Democratic president. I think she's extremely well prepared. Her experience as Secretary of State has not only elevated her stature and experience, but she's proven she's someone who can get things done and I think she'd be an outstanding candidate.
This is a win-win for Gillibrand if she wants to run for president at any point. If Hillary Clinton is the nominee or president, that breaks a barrier before Gillibrand, now 45, needs to run. If Clinton doesn't run, Gillibrand gets credit with her supporters for having urged her to do so. That's not to say Gillibrand's admiration for Clinton isn't genuine; I'm sure it is. But getting out early with it is a characteristically canny political move.
