This was the alleged contents of a note left behind after an Iraqi-born woman, a mother of five, was bludgeoned to death in El Cajon, California, a town a few miles east of San Diego. (The police have not disclosed the contents of the note, but a family friend related them).
Go back to your own country. You're a terrorist.
The crime happened on Wednesday, but it was not until this afternoon that she died. I'm not going to reproduce any more of details of the crime from article here; it's too horrible to even cut and paste.
Here's a strange comment, though, by one of the investigators, in relation to whether or not this was a hate crime:
"Although we are exploring all aspects of this investigation, evidence thus far leads us to believe this is an isolated incident," Coit said. "A hate crime is one of the possibilities and we will be looking at that. We don’t want to focus on only one issue and miss something else."
Does that mean if it's an isolated incident it's not a hate crime?
A couple of recent tweets addressed the 'isolated incident' terminology:
Justin Valas
#DearAmerica- you don't get to criminalize Black folks & perpetuate racism, then say the murder of #TrayvonMartin was an isolated incident.
Justin Valas
#DearAmerica- you don't get to perpetuate & tolerate Islamophobia, otherizing Muslims, then say the murder of #ShaimaAlawadi was isolated.
Or did Coit simply mean that no similar incidents or threats occurred recently? Certainly the police don't want to overlook other possible motives for the killing of Shaima Alawadi; and leaving a note like that would be a way to plant a "disinformation" trail. On the other hand, there had been an similar note discovered...
The daughter... said her mother had dismissed the previous note, found outside the house, thinking it was a child's prank.
The Internet is quickly rising up. Twitter is abuzz with hash tags like #RIPShaima and #MillionHijabi. There is a facebook page
One Million Hijabs for Sahima Alawadi with comments like
Neighbors describe #ShaimaAlawadi as a respectful, modest muhajiba," meaning she (used to) wear the traditional #hijab, a head scarf.
and pictures like the one above are going viral.
Perhaps the two-million Hoodie/Hajib march will be happening soon. All over the world.
10:07 AM PT: There is now a picture of Sahima Alawadi near the bottom of the Facebook page.
