President Barack Obama won the woman vote by 13 points in 2008. Given that women made up 53 percent of all voters, it made it essentially impossible for John McCain to have a path to victory, and he got his ass walloped.
We recently saw two polls showing Obama with a 20-point advantage over Mitt Romney with women this year.
[In a Public Policy Polling survey for Daily Kos and SEIU two weeks ago] Obama sports a 53-44 fav/unfav rating among women, but 43-54 among men. That's a whopping 20-point gender gap.
And PPP isn't the only outfit showing this kind of gap. Pew found a similar-sized gap:
Barack Obama’s lead over [Mitt] Romney is attributable in large part to his wide advantage among women, younger voters, and nonwhites. Women favor Obama over Romney by 20 points – virtually unchanged from a month ago – while men are divided almost evenly (49% Obama, 46% Romney). This gender gap is particularly wide among voters under age 50. Women ages 18-49 favor Obama over Romney by nearly two-to-one (64% to 33%), while men the same age are split (50% Obama, 46% Romney).
That's the reason Republicans have suddenly started claiming that it's Democrats
who are being bad for women, convincing absolutely no one (not even themselves).
Now, it's a poll from ABC News and the Washington Post that show Obama benefiting from a huge gender gap.
Obama has returned to a single-digit lead vs. Romney in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 51-44 percent among registered voters, after a virtual dead heat last month. That includes Obama’s largest margin to date among women, 57-38 percent. He trails by 8 points among men.
That's a 19-point gender gap, the same as Pew's 20-point gap. Now Pew found Obama leading among men narrowly, while this latest poll has Obama losing them by a significant margin. But when it comes to women, everyone agrees—the GOP is fucked.
