The race for Olympia Snowe's seat is underway in Maine and despite national headlines on former Governor Angus King's bid for the seat, primaries are ahead for both parties. While this writer has argued that the Senate GOP primary is over except for which far right candidate gets to heft the Republican banner, it is an appalling contest to observe.
One GOP candidate, State Senator Deborah Plowman, is bemoaning the fact that she has to go to Maine's State GOP convention this weekend because it really interferes with her vacation plans for a shoot ‘em up weekend in Nevada:
“I do believe in the Second Amendment… in fact, if it wasn’t for the (GOP) convention this weekend, I would be at the Front Sight Shooting Institute, just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, in a two day shooting course. My husband is very disappointed that I am not going with him."
I sure do hate it when my vacation plans to fire off a couple hundred rounds in an exclusive right wing community are dashed.
The following video gives one the flavor of the place which is mostly just raking in big bucks off shooting courses at the present before building an armed to the teeth community exclusively for well to do gun lovers. The two day course that Plowman refers to costs $1,000. If the Senator isn’t bringing her own pistol, rentals can be had for $140 to $180.
The Front Sight money machine is owned by Dr. Ignatius Piazza. To learn more about how the internet can be frustratingly manipulated by someone to prevent discovering accurate original source information just Google “Ignatius Piazza.” What can be gleaned from deeper searches appears to be that he believes that the NRA is a little too restrained when it comes to defending guns and inspires unoriginal comments like that of Debra Plowman, “The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting- it’s about just what it says- we should have a standing militia to protect ourselves from our own government” and others who use jabs about duck hunting to bolster their guns are more than for hunting extremism.
When Ignatius Piazza does speak using his Front Sight blog such as Piazza's convoluted overview of George Zimmerman shooting Trayvon Martin, it devolves from good-guy bad-guy talk into mawkish hawking of Front Sight memberships, gun courses, monument inscriptions, high priced limited time offers, and sales pitch tactics of infomercial proportions.
So while Debra Plowman will have to skip this leisurely vacation of unrestrained indulgence of gunnery to be at this weekend’s Republican State Convention speechifying instead about the second amendment, we at least know what she’s missing. And we also now know what the US Senate needs to be missing. Let's hope the Maine GOP will not be sitting ducks for her gun culture fanaticism and takes the first step in giving Debra Plowman a permanent vacation from elected office.
