The federal government's biggest energy conference of the year - GovEnergy- has been cancelled a little more than a month before.
GovEnergy 2012, August 19-22, 2012, St. Louis, MO is Cancelled.
After a rigorous review of the 2012 GovEnergy conference, GSA has decided to postpone this year’s conference. GSA has decided to postpone the GovEnergy conference because of new standards that GSA has put in place for conferences and contracts surrounding conferences. There was not sufficient time to make the GovEnergy compliant with these new standards for an August 2012 conference.
Come with me over the divider doodle for my personal conspiracy theory.
Note the location - St. Louis, MO. How convenient for the GSA that the event that they just had to cancel was in the home state of one Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), who, just last month, put out this press release:
GSA Investigation: McCaskill’s Inquiry Uncovers More Than $1 Million in Bonuses Paid to Employees Under Investigation for Wrongdoing, Misconduct
Senator, who began investigating GSA in 2010, expands scope of her investigation, demands answers from Administration about bonuses awarded at all federal agencies
Sen. McCaskill is the chair of the sub-committee that investigates contracting abuses throughout the federal government. I'm
sure that it is just a coincidence that the thousands of empty hotel rooms, deserted restaurants and vacant convention halls are in McCaskill's state. I'm wondering what, if any, impact this may have on her re-election campaign.
