If we have learned anything by now about Willard "Mitt" Romney, it is this-- he's a candidate of, by, and for the 1 percent who has no interest or concern about the concerns of the 99 percent.
If anyone needed any more evidence that Willard is tone deaf to the concerns of average Americans (and anyone else who doesn't look like, think like, or has as much money as he does, check out this Crooks and Liars post.
Putting it mildly, the post made me sick. Then again, this kind of conduct from Mitt Romney and his supporters shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given what we have seen these past few days.
Here is the video:
More below.
It's bad enough that Romney opposes the DREAM act as explained in the Crooks and Liars piece. What makes this episode even more despicable is how Romney's handlers responded:
Lucy asked Romney why he opposed her dreams and when he began to go back to his same talking point about people being in the country "illegally." Lucy cut him off saying that she wasn't illegal. She was brought to the United States from Peru when she was 10. Romney's handlers then moved him along and he didn't respond to Lucy's comment.
And then there was more.
According to a press release from the DRM Capitol Group, a voice for undocumented youth, Romney supporters harassed Lucy:
Lucy made her way out while Romney supporters berated her. They booed and hissed, saying that she was illegal and not worth keeping in the country. As she made her way out, she heard one man yell “Go back to Mexico.” She turned around and replied “I’m not Mexican, I’m Peruvian.”
After reading all this, it makes me hope even more that Mitt Romney never becomes president. Such conduct is un-American at its worst, and Mitt Romney must either (at the least) denounce the actions of his handlers and supporters or withdraw from the race at once. He is unworthy to be called president or even the nominee of a major political party in this country.
