After the cut: a transcript of Mr. Romney's remarks.
MITT ROMNEY: And so I will go to Washington and pull back federal spending. I will not just slow down the rate of growth, I will reduce federal spending. I'll cut $500 billion a year, by my fourth year, and I've laid out how I'll do it. It's not impossible. There are three major streams. One is to stop certain programs. Stop them! Close 'em! Turn them off! Even some you like. Now why do I say that? Well, my test is, is a program so critical that it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And and the answer I so on that base I can say some so some things that you might like, you might say, "I like the National Endowment for the Arts." I do. I like PBS. We subsidize PBS. Look, I'm going to stop that. I'm gonna say PBS is gonna have to have advertisements. We're not going to kill Big Bird, but Big Bird's gonna have advertisements, all right?
