I hate all this "pass the popcorn" talk.
We here on the left (and probably the right also) tend to be myopic. We're a little 'leftocentic' (as the right is rightocentric), I'm afraid. We're probably the best educated and most well-read of the two groups, but we make the mistake of projecting that onto the vast majority of voters.
I used to think "independent voter" characterized a voter who was intelligent and educated enough to rise above political partisanship, but now I'm coming to feel "independent voter" as meaning a voter who doesn't give a shit.
Come next election (cue thought balloon): "economy's bad - Obama had his chance - who's that running against him? - well I don't know who he is, but I guess I'll vote for him 'cause Obama's had his chance...".
That simple, stupid thought process, I fear, is going to be the majority "independent voter's" rationale for a choice. It has nothing to do with being "centrist", but everything to do with lack of education or caring about America's future.
Popcorn? No thanks. I hope the many maize ingest-ors don't wind up with stomach aches come November.
We have educational work to do. Movie's over - out of the theater (don't forget to return your rose colored 3D glasses)!
