I did write a Diary saying that PBO did not lose the first debate. I stand behind that. I suppose though that only matters to people that care about "facts" and not people who bring on "body language specialists" to parse moments of how you react to a habitual liar, that looking down to take notes is worse than laughing . . . but laughing is bad.
Needless to say I thought it part of a plan. I believed the president when he said "I got this". He had my back last night. Every single time I said President Obama PLEASE BRING UP X OR Y (BAIN, 47%) he did.
So I finally opened up my wallet. I hoped that there could be a meme of an outpouring of grassroots support. This diary is mostly going to be full of what struck me.
As how well he did made me re-think "did he win" the 1st? I only question as I think he was "perfect" here. His only "assists" were from Romney. The moderator simply was there, and moving the debate along- note to Mitt sorry you couldn't get your political points on Libya even though you've been lying through your teeth, and the Father of the Ambassador said "I don't want this to be Political".
I also wanted to well thank the President. To me it was a resurgence of what I felt in 2008.
I do not now need to see the list of accomplishment. I believe this man is back. I believe it from his face and demeanor. I believe he's learned. I believe he will not forget us, as he said on a stage we cannot what we wished to. And I can not be more grateful win/lose. If PBO LOSES (SORRY) LOSES country has what's coming (See Bain-Port, Il.).
My .05 tax on my checking account bearing (I thought no interest) right, that is going to create more jobs, and that helps women, because then there will be too many jobs so people will have to hire?
I do believe that PBO was "Perfect". As I do not see a single opening he did not attack.
This is his format. I learned that tonight. He spoke to those in the crowd, but more importantly (while scoring more political points) did not TRY (see Romney Libya) and spoke to those at home.
I actually re-watched the Debate as I could not sleep. I had to thank the president. The only way I knew how was by donating. My donation was for _.99. Didn't know if I should do .47 or .99. Thinking about donating .47 cents to Romney. LOL
What struck me. PBO had a command of the facts. I do no think the 1st debate was a good forum for him to engage Romney. It is unfortunate but true. He had the same command but instead of being "angry" (code word by republicans) he could speak to questioners, turn and make statements.
He could work the room. He could be . . . the guy I am proud to have as president.
But enough about winning, we all know he did. One guy stayed behind and shook "undecided's hands" the other took pics with his MARRIED (so no gun problem) family.
Moments that I tip my cap and opened my wallet.
From the get-go.
Thank you President Obama for telling Jeremy his future IS bright. How and why. For telling others (as if this is a cyclical recession if I remember my ECON that we need retraining).
Thank you President Obama for speaking to my state, and many like it in explaining how Romney wanted the Auto Industry to fair (and I'd add thank you Romney for being the ass you are and taking credit, you have no idea how much work went into, simply going bankrupt did not happen, statistically 5% of companies make it through Ch 11, they only did because the Gov't made it happen).
Thank you President Obama for following up (unlike the first debate to make clear).
Candy, what Governor Romney said just isn’t true. He wanted to take them into bankruptcy without providing them any way to stay open. And we would have lost a million jobs. And that — don’t take my word for it, take the executives at GM and Chrysler, some of whom are Republicans, may even support Governor Romney. But they’ll tell you his prescription wasn’t going to work.
Thank you President Obama for saying that. Saying it isn't true. Saying it as the Calm President, the compassionate man I entrusted my vote with.
Thank you President Obama for not letting up. How many times did we have to hear about this 5 point plan? I ronically when I tried to load the "full details" it wouldn't open.
And Governor Romney’s says he’s got a five-point plan? Governor Romney doesn’t have a five-point plan. He has a one-point plan. And that plan is to make sure that folks at the top play by a different set of rules. That’s been his philosophy in the private sector, that’s been his philosophy as governor, that’s been his philosophy as a presidential candidate.
Thank you. It is one point behind a glass-block of transparency. This is what is fundamentally wrong with the Country. Exactly that. Romney personifies. Romney acted like the CEO of the debate. Romney did play by a new set of rules, and Romney has no plan, thank you for challenging it.
Thank you President Obama for allowing Romney to break the rules again (invading space) and winning the staring contest.
OBAMA: Not true, Governor Romney.
ROMNEY: So how much did you cut (inaudible)?
OBAMA: Not true.
ROMNEY: How much did you cut them by, then?
OBAMA: Governor, we have actually produced more oil –
ROMNEY: No, no. How much did you cut licenses and permits on federal land and federal waters?
OBAMA: Governor Romney, here’s what we did. There were a whole bunch of oil companies.
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: No, no, I had a question and the question was how much did you cut them by?
OBAMA: You want me to answer a question –
ROMNEY: How much did you cut them by?
OBAMA: I’m happy to answer the question.
ROMNEY: All right. And it is –
OBAMA: Here’s what happened. You had a whole bunch of oil companies who had leases on public lands that they weren’t using. So what we said was you can’t just sit on this for 10, 20, 30 years, decide when you want to drill, when you want to produce, when it’s most profitable for you. These are public lands. So if you want to drill on public lands, you use it or you lose it.
ROMNEY: OK, (inaudible) –
OBAMA: And so what we did was take away those leases. And we are now reletting them so that we can actually make a profit.
ROMNEY: And production on private — on government land –
OBAMA: Production is up.
Thank you. Thank you for giving an intelligible answer. One that anyone can understand. Standing up to the bully. And that not being the last time he regretted awaking the sleeping lion.
Thank you President Obama for reminding us that in 2007 I wondered if we were on the verge of global anarchy. No one, No one on earth was IMHO more qualified or could've or wouldve wanted to do what you did. My life Is better. In every respect, especially as this debte is happening. Too many forget the truth, watch too big too fail. Think back. We were on the brink of unknown catastrophe.
OBAMA: Well, think about what the governor — think about what the governor just said. He said when I took office, the price of gasoline was $1.80, $1.86. Why is that? Because the economy was on the verge of collapse, because we were about to go through the worst recession since the Great Depression, as a consequence of some of the same policies that Governor Romney’s now promoting.
So, it’s conceivable that Governor Romney could bring down gas prices because with his policies, we might be back in that same mess.
Thank you.
Thank you President Obama for taking the high-road with a laugh. Once in a brief forgetful comment:
OBAMA: Candy, it’s not going to –
CROWLEY: We’re going to move you along –
OBAMA: Used to being interrupted.
Thank you President Obama for picking your spots.
We haven’t heard from the governor any specifics beyond Big Bird and eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood in terms of how he pays for that.
Thank you President Obama for answering questions, rebutting lies that take 20 words to do so in 20, not 50. And picking the right ones.
If somebody came to you, Governor, with a plan that said, here, I want to spend $7 or $8 trillion, and then we’re going to pay for it, but we can’t tell you until maybe after the election how we’re going to do it, you wouldn’t take such a sketchy deal and neither should you, the American people, because the math doesn’t add up.
Thank you President Obama for picking up your passion when you saw this man truly didn't care. Defending women, defending your family, because you are like us.
See Entire Women's Equality answer.
Notable Thank you: Thank you Governor ROmney for being the asshole you are. About women. Your plan, I took, we don't need "equal pay" I am going to make so many jobs that people will even have to beg women to work. Don't forget I ran a "small" company (full of men). And one time as governor someone [the truth inserted] someone had a pre-election binder in place that I looked through that had women, so I care.
I went to a number of women’s groups and said, “Can you help us find folks,” and they brought us whole binders full of women. (except again, no, there was an issue before your election)
Thank you Again President Obama. We all have Sisters, Mothers, Nieces, Grandmothers, Cousins, Daughters, etc. etc. Thank you for following up so some of them that might not have known the first time around would not have been tricked by this weasel.
K
atherine, I just want to point out that when Governor Romney’s campaign was asked about the Lilly Ledbetter bill, whether he supported it? He said, “I’ll get back to you.”
Thank you President Obama for making Romney stick to a story. For telling those who don't know he wants us not only to go to Bush II's years, but back to a mythical 50's. That he is worse than Bush. Thank you.
But the last point I want to make is this. You know, there are some things where Governor Romney is different from George Bush. George Bush didn’t propose turning Medicare into a voucher. George Bush embraced comprehensive immigration reform. He didn’t call for self-deportation.
George Bush never suggested that we eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, so there are differences between Governor Romney and George Bush, but they’re not on economic policy. In some ways, he’s gone to a more extreme place when it comes to social policy. And I think that’s a mistake. That’s not how we’re going to move our economy forward.
President Obama thank you for being intelligent about when to make the Governor stick to points that he cannot deviate from. Thank you for being reasonable to immigrants, not for their votes, but because its the right thing to do. And thank you for making that clear.
And holding Romney's feet to the fire:
Now, Governor Romney just said, you know he wants to help those young people too, but during the Republican primary, he said, “I will veto the DREAM Act”, that would allow these young people to have access.” His main strategy during the Republican primary was to say, “We’re going to encourage self-deportation.” Making life so miserable on folks that they’ll leave. He called the Arizona law a model for the nation. Part of the Arizona law said that law enforcement officers could stop folks because they suspected maybe they looked like they might be undocumented workers and check their papers.
not after folks who are here just because they’re trying to figure out how to feed their families. And that’s what we’ve done. And what I’ve also said is for young people who come here, brought here often times by their parents. Had gone to school here, pledged allegiance to the flag. Think of this as their country. Understand themselves as Americans in every way except having papers. And we should make sure that we give them a pathway to citizenship.
Thank you as I started to see passion. Belief not just talking points.
Thank you as you followed it up with more and more, speaking to everyone. Again getting the audience to laugh off-the-cuff at the Governor who tried to make a non-sensical point (I assume that if you have a mutual fund you are invested in China? a bit different than Sensata!)
ROMNEY: Mr. President, have you looked at your pension?
OBAMA: You know, I — I don’t look at my pension. It’s not as big as yours so it doesn’t take as long.
Thank you for taking personal responsibility on a point that should not be political. For wiping the smug grin off off that lying scumbag's face who thought here's a huge opening for me because Americans died.
Thank you not just for your Fact Check, but for your answer. It was real.
Secretary Clinton has done an extraordinary job. But she works for me. I’m the president and I’m always responsible, and that’s why nobody’s more interested in finding out exactly what happened than I do.
The day after the attack, governor, I stood in the Rose Garden and I told the American people in the world that we are going to find out exactly what happened. That this was an act of terror and I also said that we’re going to hunt down those who committed this crime.
And then a few days later, I was there greeting the caskets coming into Andrews Air Force Base and grieving with the families.
And the suggestion that anybody in my team, whether the Secretary of State, our U.N. Ambassador, anybody on my team would play politics or mislead when we’ve lost four of our own, governor, is offensive. That’s not what we do. That’s not what I do as president, that’s not what I do as Commander in Chief.
CROWLEY: Governor, if you want to…
ROMNEY: Yes, I — I…
CROWLEY: … quickly to this please.
ROMNEY: I — I think interesting the president just said something which — which is that on the day after the attack he went into the Rose Garden and said that this was an act of terror.
OBAMA: That’s what I said.
ROMNEY: You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack, it was an act of terror.
It was not a spontaneous demonstration, is that what you’re saying?
OBAMA: Please proceed governor.
ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror.
OBAMA: Get the transcript.
CROWLEY: It — it — it — he did in fact, sir. So let me — let me call it an act of terror…
OBAMA: Can you say that a little louder, Candy?
CROWLEY: He — he did call it an act of terror. It did as well take — it did as well take two weeks or so for the whole idea there being a riot out there about this tape to come out. You are correct about that.
Thank you President Obama (I will not mention Willard assisting you by saying 100%) for bringing up who Mitt is- I'll say this ps I have your vote then. But behind closed doors. More than that I didn't want to hear the words 47%. I am glad I did but I am glad you spoke to all of us. I am probably not in the 47%. Ironically many Romney voters probably are.
I have wanted to diary about the most disgusting sign I've seen. Mostly all Obama signs where I live. And a lot. Bigger disparity than 2008. There is one sign says nothing about Romney rather "America v. Obama in 2012". I tried to take a picture so I could think to write, but there was too much glare. It disgusts me. For too many reasons to get into in this diary. I am glad I only see 1, but Ironically while trying to take a picture I saw whose house it is/was. A gentleman 70-80, doing his own Carpentry work. So presumably a middle-lower middle class (based on the home) man with no pension, who worked hard his whole life. I will save how disruptive and poisonous rhetoric got to to make this man think the leader of our country (I recognized Bush to be President in 2004 even) is AGAINST us? I imagine you sir didn't watch. But as I am assuming you bought that hammer I saw you redoing your porch with from social security money, I hope you did.
I believe in self-reliance and individual initiative and risk takers being rewarded. But I also believe that everybody should have a fair shot and everybody should do their fair share and everybody should play by the same rules, because that’s how our economy’s grown. That’s how we built the world’s greatest middle class.
And — and that is part of what’s at stake in this election. There’s a fundamentally different vision about how we move our country forward.
I believe Governor Romney is a good man. Loves his family, cares about his faith. But I also believe that when he said behind closed doors that 47 percent of the country considered themselves victims who refuse personal responsibility, think about who he was talking about.
Folks on Social Security who’ve worked all their lives. Veterans who’ve sacrificed for this country. Students who are out there trying to hopefully advance their own dreams, but also this country’s dreams. Soldiers who are overseas fighting for us right now. People who are working hard every day, paying payroll tax, gas taxes, but don’t make enough income.
Thank you Mr. President. THANK YOU FOR SAYING SO MUCH I WISH I COULD.
And thank all of you on Daily Kos and elsewhere for sticking with him, being upbeat, and not letting the noise machine make money pretending this was close.
Thanks of course to anyone who agrees or has more reasons. Special thank you to anyone who could but doesn't spellcheck, etc. As I am writing off the top of my head quickly as I had to say something.
