It's amazing what happens when the cameras aren't rolling.
If you think the 47% comment was bad, just wait until you hear what was said by a CEO at a recent event I attended full of wealthy people, similar to the fundraiser where Romney made his now infamous 47% statement.
Some of the things I heard were downright despicable. Stomach-turning.
I got an inside view on how some of the 1%ers, for lack of a better term, think and act....and it wasn't pretty.
Before I share what was said with you, (which was only one of several appalling statements I heard that night), please allow me to take a moment to set the scene and to explain in advance why this diary will be lacking in specifics:
- This was a business event I went to recently. I own a small business (very small) and we were invited to attend. I'm light-years away from being in the top 1% myself, but the majority of the attendees were.
- I can't name the event or where it was (it was in the Northeast, that's all I'll say).
- I won't name the CEO I'm referring to or his company.
This was strictly a business event. And I was always taught to avoid controversial topics like religion or politics at such events -- which I did -- but, unfortunately, not everyone followed that rule.
I was introduced to a CEO of a company who almost immediately shifted the conversation toward politics. It was clear from the first sentence the he was a radical, right-wing, tea party type. He continued to express his views on Obama being a Muslim, a socialist...(you know the drill!) even after it should've been crystal clear just from the expression on my face at the crap he was spewing that I wasn't a subscriber to that propaganda.
It took every ounce of my being to bite my tongue. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not one who's afraid to speak their mind! But, there's a time and place for everything -- and this definitely wasn't it.
It seemed like he wanted me to take the bait...like he was DARING me to say I supported Obama so he could tear into me publicly so he could look like a hero in front of a room full of people who mostly shared his views.
So, what did I do? I used a tactic similar to the one Obama used in the last debate when he said "please proceed, Governor". I just let him keep talking and giving him more rope. Before long, the moment arrived where he showed just how much of an uncaring, self-centered person he is...
The quote below is a paraphrase of what was said by the CEO.
(And when you read it, please keep in mind that $100,000 is NOTHING to most of the people who attended this event -- this CEO almost definitely included -- some of the people attending wipe their butts with that kind of money!)
I have 52 employees in my company. Thanks to Obamacare, I'll have to pay $100,000 extra for health insurance if I have over 45 employees. So what am I going to do? I have to fire 7 people. All of my employees are great and I can't decide who to get rid of so I'm going to fire all of the employees who have Obama stickers on their car.
There was more, but this was really the topper!
Even the businessperson sitting next to him (who was Republican himself) was shocked and disgusted at how cold and unfeeling he was about firing people who helped build his company.
Here's what got me the most about the above comment: the sheer GREED!
I mean, forget about whether he actually would need to pay more or not for a moment and consider this: couldn't he, and maybe a few of his top executives trim their own pay a bit if that's the case to cover the $100,000 so his "great" employees could have healthcare? Or couldn't they cut costs to cover it?
No. Apparently, in his mind, the only way out of "Obama's mess" is to fire 7 people -- so naturally, the people cut should be Obama supporters. I mean, what else is he supposed to do? Get rid of his yacht??? Can't you see his hands are tied here people!!! And because of the evil Muslim, socialist!
Sickening. Just sickening. And these people are called the "job-creators"??
