Now, I live in Oregon, and Obama is expected to carry this state by a large margin, but good god damn it feels good to vote for this President a second time. You know what, with all of the challenges he faced, with all of the obstacles he has overcome, with all of the intransigence of the Republican party he rose above, this man, more than any other President in my living memory (I am young so not that long) deserves a second term. Fuck the haters, fuck the anti-Obama hype. He was my President in 2008 when I voted for him the first time, and I am DAMN PROUD to vote for him again.
Another thing I was excited to vote for in Oregon is Measure 80, the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act, which effectively legalizes the sale of marijuana in the state. I am proud to help end the ridiculous drug war in Oregon. I am proud to say "adults are adults who can make their own decisions about what they put in their body". I had heard that the measure was not expected to pass, but looking at the polling in Salem, it looks like if everyone votes for it that said they would, it will pass by a pretty large margin. Now, who knows if it survives a court challenge (and assuming, a Supreme Court challenge), but it is nice to have my voice heard on this issue.
Anyway, short diary. I also, for the third time, voted a straight democratic ticket. No use electing Barack Obama without giving him the support he needs in the House. Now I am not in love with my representative Kurt Schrader, he is a big blue dog, but he will vote with Barack Obama, of that I am confident. Hopefully he gets another term and the House flips back to Dems, but the way things are going I really doubt it. Still, its nice to do my part.
