Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The wayward, oddball cousins of the LGBT community, the Log Cabin Republicans, today endorsed Mitt Romney for president and vice president.
Nevermind that Mitt Romney has called for a Constitutional Amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage. Or that Romney says same partners shouldn't even be granted the separate but, equal, domestic partnerships and civil unions.
Endorsing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, the Log Cabin Republicans cite the Affordable Care Act, writing:
"We believe that President Obama has broken his promises to our country. Rather than focusing on job creation, he pushed through an extremely partisan, expensive and intrusive healthcare bill."
Huh? The Affordable Care Act, prevents the healthcare insurance industry from their practice of discriminating against people living with HIV/AIDS. It is inconceivable there are no members of the Log Cabin Republicans who haven't been touched by this disease. How cruel and thoughtless can these people be?
The Log Cabin Republicans say sine their founding in the late 1970s, they have believed in a simple idea:
building a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party requires Republicans reaching out to Republicans.
So I have to ask? Some thirty-plus years later, how's that working out for you? If anything, the GOP of 2012 is more viciously homophobic and less inclusive than at anytime in modern history. I think it's time for the Log Cabin Republicans to admit their mission has failed -- big time.
