One of my objections to some individuals in some GOP political ads is that they appear to be unidentified actors reading scripts. In a previous post, I expressed concern over the individuals who appeared to be actors rather than just ordinary folks in a Koch Brothers SuperPac funded political ads. The ad tried to make it appear that they were ordinary individuals but they only had negative comments about Obama and no other comments. Further, the individuals appeared to be scripted. A comparable August 31 PBS TV ‘NewsHour’ panel of undecided voters had positive and negative comments about both candidates.
Currently, there is a political ad running from Karl Rove’s Superpac where a 30 something unidentified brunette is sitting in a kitchen set. At first we see Obama in one of his TV ads and then the screen cuts to the woman who responds to the Obama ad with highly scripted comments which contain the usual GOP talking points and nothing else. Making this woman appear as anything other than an actress reading a part or as a political party spokesperson is highly dishonest. She is not an average housewife trying to decide how to vote. Democrats and the media should challenge this political ad. Actors and political party operatives should be noted in all ads where they are present. This political ad is being run frequently in an attempt to influence voters. That is why voters should know the following:
1. Who is this woman? Where is she from? Is she even an American?
2. Is she actress or GOP party operative?
3. Is she being compensated? What form does the compensation take? How much?
4. Does she actually have a family?
5. Are they actually worse off than they were 4 years ago?
6. Who does the casting for the GOP? This is far from the first ad which appears to have actors?
In my opinion, the most annoying ad in this election cycle was where 2 Florida Republicans were running against each other in the state party primary. One of the ads contained an unidentified elderly woman who constantly screeched, “That’s not conservative.” The winner of this nasty contest between 2 factions of the Florida GOP, Aaron Bean is running against Nancy Soderberg. She is a former top national security aide in the Clinton administration. Bean relied on ads using unidentified persons including the cranky oldster. http://jacksonville.com/....
In the political ads that I remember from Democratic Party, the individuals are identified and are real people not actors. You may remember that Rick Scott used what appeared to be actors and not known persons in many of his ads. You may also remember that Rick Scott had his mother make an ad for him. Many Floridians now regret their votes back in 2010 for Rick Scott.
This brings me to another GOP political ad. This one is from the mother of Florida GOP Senate candidate Connie Mack. Hey Florida voters, if you regret voting for Rick Scott maybe you should not vote for Connie Mack even if mom endorses him. Given young Connie Mack’s wild personal history this ad appears to be a desperate attempt to appeal to voters like the ad with Rick Scott’s mom. You may remember that Scott has issues with medicare fraud at a hospital company he ran.
