Just for fun, we completed an informal analysis of what the world would look like if the unthinkable occurred-Mitt Romney being elected president of the United States. The results were far worse than we could have imagined. A careful examination the results revealed disturbing outcomes for global stability.
Should that unthinkable and unimaginable scenario occur in a world tilting left, a Romney administration would create incalculable economic friction through the immediate reversal of Barack Obama’s policies. In laying the ground work to rebuild America’s economic foundation through investment in education, research and development, infrastructure and a livable social safety net, current efforts will alleviate unnecessary pain in the short term while providing solid growth opportunities for the mid and long term.
With most of the world already witnessing positive traction developing in the U.S. economy, (albeit ever so slight) through growth oriented strategies, few will be convinced to voluntarily accept harsh austerity measures when a working alternative is within view. A Romney administration pushing tax cuts for the wealthy, unlimited funding for defense and nothing but austerity for the masses would only grow America’s underclass.
Our research indicate, its highly unlikely the Romney/Ryan plan would create the 12 million new American jobs promised. Any uptick in employment activity during a Romney/Ryan administration will be largely low wage opportunities with poor benefits, if any at all.
By aggressively cutting spending without regard for essential investments in the future of America’s youth and meeting moral obligations to its seniors and its crippled military, a Romney administration would eventually face the same levels of civil unrest that European leaders are struggling with now.
In diametric opposition to current global trends, a Mitt Romney administration would offer little hope for personal economic recovery and at best, uncertain prospects for following generations. Nothing could cause as much irreparable harm than the sustained economic instability a Romney/Ryan plan would trigger. This is a sure-fire recipe for social conflict and or mass revolt.
Widespread violence could ensue 12-18 months out, as the masses, both domestically and abroad turn on themselves looking for scapegoats to blame for their pain. After all, if America gets this wrong, everybody is gonna take the fall.
Since it will never be made clear who is making one’s life miserable, its natural to lash out at the easiest targets. Line up the usual suspects; minorities and immigrants. Whether the Tea Party will reemerge as America's equivalent to Greece's Golden Dawn is yet to be determined, but when delusional Republicans realize they've had, they're gonna be pissed.
It is precisely because President Obama recognized that only a balanced approach to salvaging the American economy would avoid citizens turning on government before eventually turning on each other, that the United States has maintained surprising civility under the strain. European leaders are being challenged daily by their respective citizenry through street violence, as they vent anger and despair at government’s inability to entertain solutions that would leave them with a life worth living.
A mindset of a Mitt Romney, having no clue about the lives of the “human class” would indeed Take the World Over the Edge.
