Welcome all to another Saturday evening and WFD! Tonight I thought I would share some of the wacky, crazy, amusing food ads I have scanned from some old issues of Good Housekeeping that I picked up at the last library book giveaway. They had a huge stack of them from the late 60's & early 70's and I snagged as many as I could reasonably carry. I love looking at these old advertisements with recipes based largely around using canned ingredients. Some of them look like they could be adjusted to make good-tasting meals but some of them are just beyond the realm of tasting good. I hope you enjoy this blast from our food past!
What's For Dinner is a community diary on Saturday evenings about 7:30 pm EST where cyber friends get together and discuss food and share recipes. Pull your chair up to the table and leave politics at the door. Pour yourselves a drink and relax.
Hmm. . . uncooked rice, canned corn, canned tomato sauce, onion & green pepper, more tomato sauce, raw ground beef, and topped with bacon. It could be good, right?
A meatloaf pie topped with a mustard flavored meringue. And remember, "Don't expect the best results from this recipe with any other mustard."
Um, it's a molded tuna casserole ring. Need I say more?
Hmmm, ground beef makes the crust? Ok, I'm put off just thinking about how greasy that would be, but yet it has ingredients that seem like it would make a fine casserole. I just hesitate at the thought of a crust made from ground beef;)
Who knew making a dip for a party could be as simple as combining a heap of Miracle Whip and a handful of fresh chives? Wow! Entertaining made easy with a heaping side of cholesterol! And, may I add, "It's FABULOUSLY popular!"
Corned beef hash stuffed peppers? Ok, that sounds awesome. It's "famous Armor meat" after all. But seriously, I can imagine making this from scratch using leftover corned beef and fresh veggies and it has potential.
So tonight I am hosting some friends for a Halloween/Birthday party and am going with a German Oktoberfest food theme. Sausages, sauerkraut, cheeses, pretzels and my bacon cheddar horseradish stuffed 'shrooms. I'll be busy but will try to check in here until folks start showing up:)
