I am copying this to all my personal and political contacts, and the Executives and Board of Directors of Chevron Corp.
I was a 42 year customer of Chevron until I read today that they donated $2.5 Million to Rep. John Boehner’s Super Pac to help fill the House of Representatives with rightwing Republicans, who are destroying America and trying to force their extreme religious beliefs and perverse form of capitalism on us all. By making this donation specifically to the Boehner’s House Super Pac, they are marrying themselves to the most radical and destructive elements in American politics today.
You can see the FEC donation report here: http://query.nictusa.com/... and can read an article about the donation by the non-partisan group, Center for Public Integrity here: http://www.publicintegrity.org/...
The current agenda of the Republican Party has moved from being a positive force for efficient government and protector of citizen’s rights to a combination of religious bigots who want to push their fringe beliefs on society and criminals who take campaign donations in return for legislation that favors the privileged and wealthy. For Chevron to support these policies cries out for mass civil actions.
After Citizen’s United, what Chevron has done may be legal, but it is certainly wrong for America and harmful to a vast majority of our citizens.
In 1970, after getting out of the army, I got my first credit card from Chevron – and I’ve been a loyal customer ever since. When needing gas, I would always look for the Chevron station. But, NOT ANY MORE.
People have to vote with their dollars and stop this total breakdown of democracy. We cannot allow our elected government officials to be bought by international corporations and a handful of wealthy individuals. It’s now gone too far.
I’m retired now, after a successful career as a high-tech executive in Silicon Valley – and always felt it was patriotic to pay taxes. Billionaire real estate investor and legendary tax evader Leona Helmsley famously said: “Only the little people pay taxes.” Mitt Romney follows that tradition, paying less tax as a percentage of income than almost all working Americans. It has to stop – and we can reverse this by voting, and voting with our purchasing decisions.
The big players, international corporations and billionaires, pay a few measly millions to buy our politicians and then reap billions in tax-free profits. Although this Chevron contribution represents just a small trickle compared to the tsunami of the total money going into right-wing politics, it is thought to be the largest for a public company.
Specifically, by Chevron giving to the Boehner’s Republican House PAC, they are supporting anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, anti-women, anti-American, pro-war, fiscally irresponsible legislation pushed by the most radical group of elected officials in modern times. Chevron has married their corporation to the worst of politics in America. This needs to be exposed and reacted to.
We, as citizens and consumers, can do something about that. In America we have an economy that is primarily based on consumer spending. We should not support these tactics, which are ruinous to our country. In fact, it’s disturbing that Republicans don’t get it, that they are killing the “golden goose”, without a strong and thriving middle class, there is no economy. Don’t buy from Chevron – go across the street to any other station.
Please pass this along and stop all purchases at Chevron. If you have stock in Chevron; sell it. Write letters to their board of directors and executives expressing your disgust with their business decisions. Raise public awareness that our democracy and freedoms are being stolen by these parasites on our country.
If Chevron wants to make things right, immediately donate dollar for dollar to Democrats, and then stop all political donations for good.
I look forward to your participation in democracy over this issue.
