When Romney wins things will be better....
This is what I keep hearing and, in many ways, this will be true. But not because of Romney. Rather, it will be because of Obama.
We all are concerned about what a Romney Presidency will mean for the Supreme Court, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, women's rights, minority rights, etc...
But the biggest concern we should have is what a Romney Presidency will mean for the next generation of politics. Forget the near term: what about the long term?
If Romney wins, the 12 million jobs that are already projected to be created will be credited to him.
If Romney wins, the larger effects of Obamacare that take place in 2014 will be credited to him. Romney will not repeal it. He will rename it.
If Romney wins, all the work Obama has done to move the deficit in the right direction will be credited to Romney.
If Romney wins, the mini-Dream Act, and its inevitable extension, will be credited to Romney.
If Romney wins, the improved economic landscape will be credited to Romney.
I can go on and on.
The bottom line is that Romney is poised to take credit for everything Obama has accomplished. And he will get away with it and the media will cheer him on as we watch in disbelief.
That will result in a generational shift like the one that occurred under Reagan. Make no mistake about it: what we are fighting for now is the hearts and minds of a new generation of voters. With a Romney win, all of his and the Republican's "policies" will be declared successful and vindicated. A win for Romney now guarantees a win in 2016. That is 8 years of Republican rule due to the lagging successes of Obama.
Maybe it's just me, but that scares the hell out of me.
I, like many of you, do not agree with all that Obama has done or is promising to do. However, I know that Romney is a vacuous and petulant man and what a disaster a Romney revolution would mean for this country and the future of the political left.
While Obama is busy with Sandy, how about getting busy for him?
If you are unemployed, like me, go to the nearest swing state this week and help out.
If you are employed, take a personal day or call in sick a day or 2 and make phone calls.
If you are in college, ditch class and find the nearest office.
If you are retired, talk to your friends, make phone calls, find an office.
If you do not want to talk to voters, cool. Help in offices.
Whatever. DO WHATEVER, but do not sit idly by and allow Romney and his fellow snake oil salesmen to take credit for all the work that has been done over the last 4 years.
