You know, this guy:
I don't understand it. I really don't. President Barack Obama may not be perfect, he has made mistakes, his supporting cast may not always have his back, and he faces an intransigent, obstructionist opposition, but his record is clear. Despite everything against him, despite all odds and all the crap that has been thrown at him, this President rose above it all and had one of the most successful first terms in modern Presidential history. The bulk of his agenda was passed, most, if not all of the bills he has passed, executive orders he has written and policies his administration has change have been at the benefit of the vast majority of us. Important social changes have also been made by the Obama administration: DADT being ended, Lily Ledbetter fair pay act passed, the federal government's defense of DOMA has stopped. He has, by and large, been successful. His foreign policy creds are second to none. He has stopped the republican "Democrats are weak on national defense" talking point right in its tracks. Bin Laden is dead. Our men and women are returning home from Iraq, AQ is decimated, its tops leaders are dead and it remnants are scattered and weak.
And yet this election is close. Even after all of the missteps, screw ups, and gaffes that his opponent, Fmr Gov. Mitt Romney has made. Even after the 47% remarks, his obvious politicizing of the Benghazi attacks before they had even ended, and his disrespect for the Office of the President as demonstrated in the debates, it is still close. I don't fucking get it, I don't understand. Why is this election as close as it is?
And now we have another opportunity to witness the stark choice we have November 6th. While President Obama is doing things that actually matter, expediting funding to disaster victims, and making sure that everyone knows exactly how they can help the victims of Superstorm Sandy, Mitt Romney is holding a psuedo-campaign event/disaster relief rally in Ohio. And it was a major fail. While I know that Romney at least acknowledging that there is a disaster going on is a step in the right direction from Bush (he waited 5 days before he did anything about Katrina), isn't it a tad unseemly to have such a thinly veiled campaign event in the midst of a disaster? And then slickly calling it a "disaster relief event" to help shield yourself from the criticism that you are politicking at a time of natural disaster....
To make matters worse, Mitt Romney didn't even do anything that actually contributed to, ya know, disaster relief. Instead of telling people to give blood or donate money to the red cross, what did the Romney campaign do? They collected cans?!?!?!? Talk about failing the CiC test...YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE RED CROSS NEEDS DURING A DISASTER!! How could you possibly know what the many departments that make up the federal government need ALL AT THE SAME TIME? You fail Mitt. You absolutely fail at this.
And, you know, I hate to politicize a disaster like this, but damn it, shouldn't a candidate for President of the United States at least have SOME IDEA of what is needed during a time of disaster. The election is a week away, this candidate has a chance not to be Candidate Romney any more but President Elect Romney. Is this how a President Elect should act? Is this how a President should act? No.
The choice has never been more clear. No matter how you feel about President Obama personally, you have to see, by now, that Mitt Romney is not ready to be the leader of the United States.
