So if you’re not lucky enough to live the state of confusion that is Ohio like myself. Allow me to give you a crash course on State Bill 5. After the red wave of the 2010 midterm elections the new Ohio Republican senate decided to try and over reach and cram a union busting bill down Ohio’s collective gullet. http://www.aolnews.com/...
My first thoughts when this behemoth passed were something along the lines of. “Of course they would do something like this. You voted them in what do you expect?” It reminds me of the fable of the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion wants to cross the river but can’t swim. A frog comes by and the scorpion asks for a ride on the top of the frogs back. The frog replies “but you’ll sting me” The scorpion assures the frog that he will not and the frog agrees to carry the scorpion across the river. When the two reach the other side the scorpion thanks the frog for the ride and swiftly stings the scorpion. As the frog lay dying he asks the scorpion “why did you sting me?” and the scorpion replies “of course I killed you… I’m a scorpion”
So why Ohio voters did not realize that the first thing the new elected Republican senate would do is sting the middle class is beyond me. But as soon SB5 passed Ohioans mobilized against it. Collecting 714,137 petition signatures. Three times the amount needed to get a pass or fail measure in the voters hands where it was eventually killed at the ballot box.
So if this was the case. Why oh why is Mitt Romney even able to compete in Ohio. I have faith that a majority of voters will pull the lever for the President. But that the Republican party has any traction at all in the state is beyond reason to me. Maybe people here just like going to the state capital of Columbus and dropping off truck loads of signed petitions. Well if you elect Mitt Romney you’ll be doing a lot more of that for sure. http://lunchpailleft.com/
