First we had 'moderate' Romney, Governor of Massachusetts. He supported the right to choose and universal health care - something he had to do to get elected.
Before September 18, we saw the development of Romney the 'severe conservative' who abandoned the former Mitt in favor of adopting some of the most extreme Republican ideologies, something he had to do to get the nomination. That's why he picked Ryan - a 'severe conservative', not because he cared about the middle class or saving Medicare.
After receiving the nomination, Romney always hoped to 'reset' back to the middle - something he would have to do to get elected. But the September 18 47% video derailed his campaign. I think it was because many believed that the Mitt Romney in that hidden video was the real Mitt Romney - not the 'severe conservative' or the 'moderate governor'. They were right.
But what happened last night was Romney's attempt to 'reset' his campaign and give it a new face; an attempt to distance presidential candidate Mitt Romney from both the real Mitt Romney and all the other political faces he has portrayed.
Romney's debate performance, while many believe was a win, I view as simply a great sales job - of a snake oil salesman. Romney attempted to redefine himself last night for the voters, but it was a sham attempt to fool the voters into buying more snake oil. Eventually the public, after learning the snake oil was a scam, drive the salesman out of town. We need to make that happen - now, not eventually.
Obama has been consistent in his vision. Has there been a more inconsistent candidate than Romney?
Romney is of, by, and for the top 1%. The 47% video is the real Mitt Romney. Romney is part of the problem, not the solution. His economic and foreign policies are dangerous intensifications of failed Republican policies of the 2000's.
We need to remove the masks and show the real Romney to the voters: the harvesting vulture capitalist and the severe conservative. He will do whatever he has to do to get elected, but once in office, we know what the real Mitt Romney would do and what the results would be.
We know, but do the voters? Now is the time to make sure they do.
