Inspired by a tweet by @pourmecoffee and a response by @kjhealy, I decided to complete their revision of the beautiful song "Hallelujah" to extend our thoughts to our rightwing counterparts who are having a sad today. (I'm thinking of Wainright version, but I do not own the rights to this song, and you should immediately buy copies of every possible version of it on iTunes). Thanks and apologies to @pourmecoffee, @kjhealy, Leonard Cohen, Rufus Wainright, and of course Mitt Romney.
I’ve heard there was a secret poll
Nate Silver used and it pleased the Lord,
but you don't really care for math now do you?
It goes like this:
The mean, the mode, the sigma squared, the Stata code,
But you just thought Silver was trying to screw ya.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You ignored Seamus on the roof
But Romneycare and taxes burned right through ya
Then Eastwood yelled at an empty chair
And the first debate showed Mitt had a pair
And from your lips he drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before
I know this room and I've walked this floor
I supported Kerry-Edwards before I knew you
You're still mad about Obama’s marble arch
But this election is hardly your victory march
Now you’re cold and broken and think we screwed ya
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
The fact is your candidates let us know
What's real and going on, you know?
You wish they'd never shown that to us, do you?
When Akin offered up his screed
And Mourdock basically agreed
We drew a breath and knew that they had screwed ya
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above
‘Cause all you've ever learned from Rove
Was how to shriek at someone who outdrew ya
We heard his anguished cry that night
He's not somebody who's seen the light
He's cold and now he's broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, now do you?
It goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight over through ya
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
It's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
