Open Letter to:
President Obama and the US Congress
I have heard talk of Entitlement Reform as part of the Fiscal Curb (not Cliff) negotiations.
As a lifelong Democrat, I am 100% in favor of Entitlement Reform if this means:
1. Adding Affluence Testing which means no Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid for any Married Couple having an Retirement Funds in excess of $250,000 (for Single Persons this would be $200,000)
2. Removing the Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid Tax Caps for Married Couples making over $250,000 of income of any form (again, Single Person levels would be $200,000). The tax rate levels above the indicated Tax Caps should be high enough to restore fiscal health to these programs and can be adjusted downward after the fiscal health to these programs is restored.
What you say, this is unfair.
No, it is not. Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are programs that protect those that need help. If you make the amounts indicated above, then you can afford to provide for yourself in your senior years. Consider it your civic duty to live in this great Country and your payment towards continuing to keep this Country strong and compassionate towards its citizens.
