Whenever I see a rally for President Obama on TV, the crowds seem huge and enthusiastic. So I was a little surprised when it was announced that his rally here in Broward Co., FL on Sunday would be at a high school football stadium. When he came here in 2008, his rally was at the larger Bank Atlantic Center, home of the NHL Florida Panthers.
Is the president focusing on smaller, more intimate venues this time around, or is it a problem to get the big crowds? According to the Obama campaign, "the numbers are purposely being kept low, citing the cost of holding larger events and the president's desire to travel to smaller cities in battleground states."
The freepers are going crazy with reports that Obama is drawing "pitiful" crowds and that the Dems are in panic over Romney's larger crowds. There's a link on Real Clear Politics to a story from the National Review (not a trustworthy source) claiming that President Obama is drawing smaller crowds than McCain in 2008.
What's the truth here? Kos noted yesterday that there were a lot of empty seats at Romney's rallies and there was "low energy level."
I'll be at the rally tomorrow and will give a report. Hope to see a capacity crowd.
