I'm living abroad in Australia this year. I feel bad not being around for the election, but it was an opportunity I absolutely could not pass up. I've found Australians to be friendly, tolerant, and wiling to help the confused American who has no idea what they are talking about when they use words like "rashy" and "air co". I few weeks ago I got some buttons sent over from NerdsForObama.org, and often wear them around town, along with one of the 4 Obama t-shirts I brought with me.
And while Australians are generally friendly, I never get anywhere near the number of smiles as I do when I wear a button or shirt. People smile at me from half a block away. I get Thumbs up from random people. Cashiers tell me how much they love Obama.
The world is watching. They are desperate for Obama to win. I hung a photocopy of my ballot next to my desk, I've had coworkers ask for a copy so they could pretend to vote for Obama.
Thank all of you so much for the work you are doing. the knocks and calls and endless hours talking to voters. Thank you from me, and from a bunch of Australians who smile at a stranger in the street because of a button.
