It was 38 degrees and raining when I started my shift at a slightly/moderately red precinct just north of Asheville. Turnout was steady, and pretty soon we had three dems, and then five working, alongside a half dozen Rs. Everyone was pretty well behaved, although not many voters wanted to talk or pick up slate cards, compared with early voters. The weather stayed pretty miserable, with steady rain mixed with snow.
When I checked out at 11 AM, the count was 294 voted, out of a precinct total just below 1200, so 25% had voted in the first 4 1/2 hours on election day. They couldn't give me stats on how many from that precinct had voted early, but interest in Buncombe County has been high. The ever excellent MattTx has the statewide early vote total at around 57%, so we may be over 80%. HIGH TURNOUT BENEFITS OUT TEAM! So far, so good, just six hours til the polls close.
