I am an Obama poll watcher in Miami-Dade County, Florida. I am working in a precinct that is primarily African American, including many Haitian Americans. In 2008, there were 436 votes cast on Election Day and 603 votes cast during early and absentee voting, for a total of 1,039 votes cast. This precinct went 93.55% for President Obama.
This year there were 578 votes cast in this precinct, an Election Day increase of 142 votes. HOWEVER, the precinct clerk has told me that she thinks there may have been approximately 280 early/absentee votes for this precinct, which - if accurate - is strikingly lower than 2008. And the total vote for the precinct would be around 858 votes, also discouragingly lower than 2008.
I hope this is not indicative of the Obama-leaning precincts throughout the county. If so, the suppression efforts (reduced early voting days with disgraceful long lines and waits) may have worked.
Sorry for being a downer.
As for results for this precinct: Obama - 546; Romney - 21; Johnson - 1; Write-in - 1; Overvotes - 7; Undervotes - 2.
