What does that really mean?
The right to $8.88/hr at Walmart? No health insurance, no protection against corporate malfeasance, no assurance of equal protection and safety?
What does Right to Work really mean?
In my experience right to work has two connotations.
Neither of them are supportive of the worker, they are in fact ideas which allow corporations to dismantle workers rights. The right to work is not an employee's protection, it is a corporate protection.
The first is the idea that union membership is NOT dependent upon membership dues. This is supposed to be America. How does anyone expect union protection without paying their share of union dues. Any American who refuses to pay for a membership in their union but expects that union to protect their rights must be an idiot or worse. But this is exactly what is occurring. American workers are voting against their own future when they expect the corporation to play fair when it comes to worker's rights. Corporations and politicians have pitted employee against employee using unions as their scapegoat and they are succeeding in state after state.
Over the past 30 years American workers have seen the dismantling of pensions, hourly wages, vacation days and overall loyalty. It's much worse than this.
The second is the fallacy of corporate rights trumping employee rights. Unions have been the only recouse for employees to receive justice and equality from the implementation of illegal or improper employer policies.
The alternative to unions are class action suits and everyone knows that class action suits don't correct policies, they merely make lawyers wealthy.
This whole idea that individual employees can fight their employer without a union is preposterous. Individual employees rarely, if ever win any grievance against a corporation without the backing and resources of a union.
The decline in American wages, pensions and security is a direct result of the continued assault on unions an their protection.
Anyone believing otherwise is either a syncophant for corporate lies or a traitor to the American worker and the idea of fairness in the workplace.
In-fighting between workers is the corporate agenda.
Don't believe in this crap.
