When I joined the Daily Kos community, I took the moniker "TeaTime." It was inspired by the Dean campaign's landmark declaration "The Tea Is In The Harbor," long before the Tea Party Patriots and other far-right fringe activists surfaced to cleverly counter co-opt that part of our American heritage. My Kos diaries have long been dormant, but every time I receive email from The Daily Kos to "TeaTime" I am reminded that I need to retire this moniker so neither the Daily Kos nor I am mis-identified as having any affiliation with the far-right crazies driving the Republican Party over the cliff. The weekend they appear to be driving the country closer to the so-called "fiscal cliff" seemed to be a good time to lay it to rest.
So, with a nod to the movement that propelled me into political activism, in the future I will post under the moniker "demokratia," from the Greek "demos" for people and "kratia" for power. Forward!
