First off, my sincere apologies for taking almost three weeks to post this diary. It's been a crazy busy time with lab work (research posters and seminars, setting up a thesis committee meeting time, lots and lots of experiments), but I finally have some time to let the Daily Kos community see how much fun we had at our first ever Philly Kos meetup back on Sunday, November 11th!
As a primer to this photo diary, check out our announcement diary here:
The FIRST Philly Kos Meet Up: Sunday, Nov. 11 at Reading Terminal Market
As you can see from the initial announcement diary, we decided on Reading Terminal Market as our meeting spot because it's in the center of Philadelphia and has easier public transit access than a lot of other spots in Philly.
Mega kudos to asterkitty who helped lead off this effort by doing a lot of behind the scenes (and in the spotlight) work to let Philly area Kossacks know of the group and get them excited for meet ups!
I suppose I'm wrongly rewarded for waiting so long to post these pictures, since now I get to use the new fancy Image Uploader!
Since it's been a while from our actual meet up, I've forgotten which members prefer to not be identified via real name or Daily Kos username, so I'll just post the pictures and if members who attended want to be identified, I can edit the diary as such.
OK, here's the pictures!
This is me (mconvente) with our Philly Kos sign in front of the Brass Pig (which we designated as our initial meeting spot).
Here are two cool Kossacks holding another Philly Kos sign that asterkitty made (can you tell by the picture of the cat! haha)
Some more cool Kossacks toward one end of our multi-table spot in Reading Terminal Market.
A few of us (me included) got a late lunch while at our meet up.
Another sweet shot of two cool cats! (Both the wonderful Daily Kos member and the Philly Kos sign again!)
Wide angle shot getting most of the group. We had so many people that it was impossible to get everyone!
Here's our last picture. Overall, it was a superb meet up!
We had a really nice turn out for our first ever Philly Kos meet up. I'd say we had around 15-17 people, and some members were not able to attend last minute, so as we keep these going we should be able to get even more area Kossacks to come!
I'm excited to check out other parts of the city as we hold future events closer to where other Philly area Kossacks live.
If you are interested in joining the Philly Kos group and listserv, just send me an individual Kos Message (the Group messages are still totally messed up...) or you can just Tweet me @mikeconvente (if you use Twitter).
Hope to see you all (and more!) again soon!
