I have been puzzled over President Obama's stance on this whole birth control issue.
Why bring it to the forefront now? -
Was it a terrible mistake on his part? -
My guess is no mistake - and perfect timing on the President's part.
He is boxing in the "uber" right conservatives at CPAC. Right now Romney, Gingrich and Santorum cannot get their anti birth control stance far right enough. Their speeches, wrapping themselves up in the hate of their CPAC audiences cannot get base enough.
The issue for the President has been solved very nicely - but the 3 GOP stooges are now stuck with their rhetoric cutting down health care for women. It will not matter that they will claim that it was about freedom, churches -- while all women know that those 3 just chose to cut the women off -- their choice -- and it was the women that was dispensable for them.
A very interesting article in the Daily Beast by Eleanor Clift takes a little different tack -- but also mentions that she thinks that it was oh so very deliberately.

She believes it was for reason of getting young voters engaged:
“They’ve got to get young people jazzed up, and there are very few issues that get young women more jazzed up than contraception.”
Could the administration have done anything to avoid the firestorm over its ruling that Catholic institutions provide birth-control coverage to employees? “Avoid it?” says Democratic pollster Geoffrey Garin. “The presumption of the word is that this is politically damaging. This is a pro-birth-control country.” While the views of those who oppose contraception must be respected, he says, it shouldn’t be done by denying coverage to women who work for Catholic-affiliated hospitals, universities, and charities, and who may or may not follow the teachings of the Catholic Church.
I agree....
I have been a very lukewarm Obama supporter this time around -- have not donated any money. Certainly would vote for President Obama to be re-elected, but I have not been very happy with the President and the decisions he has made on many - for me - core issues.
But I have made my first donations to the President's re-election -- he has - finally -- gotten me - fired up - ready to go --
We now all conclusively know that if you vote republican -- women's healthcare will be a non-issue to them -- it will get cut faster than you can say sex. If the resulting pregnancies end up as abortions -- well too bad sister -- because you will not find a place anywhere to have an abortion either.
So yes -- for many women and hopefully for enlightened men - they now have a clear choice.....
