Grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, Joseph P. Kennedy III, will announce his candidacy for the seat of retiring Congressman Barney Frank.
Joseph P. Kennedy III will announce his candidacy for Congress tomorrow, sealing the heavily anticipated contest for the 4th Congressional District, a campaign source told the Herald.
The son of Joseph P. Kennedy II and grandson of Robert F. Kennedy is 31 years old and has no political experience. He is an Assistant DA for Middlesex County, but otherwise his Wikipedia page is very light. Nevertheless, the name recognition is there and he polls strongly against the Republican challenger.
The 31-year-old Kennedy has said he expects a hard-fought campaign that will allow him to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Barney Frank.
In a recent UMass Lowell/Boston Herald poll testing the 4th Congressional District, Kennedy trounces Bielat, 60 percent to 28 percent.
Kennedy has already received the endorsement of the AFL-CIO as of yesterday and has moved to Brookline in anticipation of the candidacy. He is engaged to Lauren Ann Birchfield of Harvard Law School.
Barney Frank's shoes will be hard to fill but maybe a young Kennedy can do it.
