I have several very close friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and luckily survived.
I support preventive services in ways that are easy for me. Writing a check is easy, and so is buying coffee, being that I'm a caffeine addict of the worst kind.
Caribou Coffee (may not be in your market), sells a blend named for one of their coffee roast masters who died from breast cancer. Her name is Amy and you can read a little bit of her story.
They created a special coffee blend in her honer and the proceeds support breast cancer services. 10 percent goes to the Komen for the Cure.
Read my note to Caribou HQ (Minneapolis) after the coffee bean. If you're a customer, ask them the same question.
Hello,
As a native Minnesotan, I've always loved Caribou Coffee. I'm a daily customer and sometimes twice a day.
I've also always supported Amy's Coffee Collection. I'm moved by her story, Caribou's commitment to an employee, and the struggle of other women who might not otherwise be screened, diagnosed, and treated. And after three of my dearest friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and thankfully survived, I went the extra mile and would buy more coffee as gifts for friends during breast cancer awareness month.
And now I'm reluctant to do so any longer. The 10 percent that's given to the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation from the sale of Amy's Blend Coffee used to provide access to these services. But not any longer.
The Komen for the Cure Foundation has politicized breast cancer for selfish and extremist reasons, putting millions of women's lives at risk.
I want to know the formal position of Caribou Coffee and its relationship with the Komen organization. Otherwise I will have to reconsider my own relationship with Caribou.
Thank You.
