I didn't have interent access all day yesterday, but Itzl is doing well.
He finally pooped, after hours and hours of fussing and moaning. The vet didn't recommend an enema because of the drug overdose he'd had - one side effect was to make his bowels fragile and, given his small size coupled with possibly fragile bowels, even the gentlest enema might have perforated and caused a possibly fatal reaction.
So we walked him and did belly massages and walked him some more. He was OK with other people walking him sometimes, but no one else could touch his belly and massage him.
Walking was difficult for him because he had trapped gas pockets. All the meds were slowing his system down, too, making it a further issue for him.
So I stayed until he finally pooped at 2:00 this morning. Then I went home for a nap and went straight back at 6:00 am
He pooped a second time about half an hour ago, so I came home to cook him some more lunch, and I'll be heading back out. He won't eat from any of them, or take oral meds willingly. He thinks it's food, and he refuses to take food from any but a select group of people. He's very good at projectile vomiting pills or food that untrusted others force down him, but if I give him the meds. he'll take them. He'll give me this "I'm only taking it because YOU are teling me to." Then he cuts his eyes over to the vet tech and you can see him thinking, "And THEY are not the boss of me."
In other good news, he's stretching his leg out, and even allowing it to drop some when he walks, instead of keeping it tucked up under his belly so tight he looks like he doesn't have a leg there at all. Another day or two, and he'll start putting weight on it. Once he puts weight on it of his own, he starts his therapy.
The incision is healing well, and his hair is already growing back where it was shaved for the surgery.
The vet will evaluate him this afternoon, and I may be able to bring him home tonight and then take him back tomorrow for bloodwork. Or they may just keep him one more night and release him after his bloodowrk is done.
There's no time to upload the pics I took (none of his poop, though - aren't you glad?), but I hope to have time to do so tonight.
