Once again today's (2/20/12 3:07pm eastern) Daily KOS reads more like a republican cause.
Scanning the entries/items, I see 10 things - not counting the Open Thread or Morning Digest. Of those 10, all 10 were about republican candidates, positions or policy.
The Morning Digest was a single item about the republican pecadillo in Arizona. The Open Thread had 16 links, 6 were basically republican themed.
For you keeping score at home, that is 17 republican theme/memes out of 27 total items. Republican agenda is covered at a 76% rate on DailyKOS.
This is NOT the way to build enthusiasm for Democratic party policy and candidates. Just being the "NOT republican" is not going to get it done.
People want action. People want leadership. People need inspiration.
Cartoon snark and coverage of every bloviation of the right wing may be amusing - but seriously risk turning into the old Saturday Night Live debate parody where "Dukakis" listens to "Bush" babbling about 'stay the course' and reacts saying "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy!". Then in real life - Dukakis got destroyed in the general election, setting the stage for much of our current misery.
If DailyKOS kommunity is any indication, then the Democratic ticket is in serious trouble.
Often I hear that despite his capitulation, accomodation and compromise, Obama has achieved major policy progress. Why are those achievements not the focus of discussion? What should we "netizens" in the "web roots" be marshalling to talk up at the local level to inspire confidence in Obama and down ticket candidates? What will help motivate turnout?
The 2010 midterms should be a real wake up call. Assuming that a not-republican position will be enough is assuming too much.
We need some reasons. We need some excitement. We need more than:
Oh well,
what the hell,
Obama 2012
We need HOPE. We need CHANGE. We need something to rally for, to BELIEVE in.
