The smell of desperation is unmistakable. Romney, not being Conservative enough, gave rise to the surge of Santorum, for whom a new political taxonomy must be identified, for he is beyond Conservative. However, it has become increasingly evident that Romney and Santorum, like Gingrich and Paul, may be unelectable. But who will save the GOP and America as we know it?
Hint: It’s someone that has recently given a SOTU response, and his first name is not Piyush. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is now being mentioned in various GOoPer circles as a potential knight in shining armor. Daniels is neither too Conservative nor too Conservative. Personally, I like the guy and it is my understanding that he has taken some of the same “trips” that I have . I wonder if he also likes the Dead?
If you are old enough to remember, picture Nixon in that famous televised debate with JFK. JFK, the picture of dapper, sun-tanned youth and vigor, and Nixon, older than his years, hunched over in his ill-fitting Sears suit, sweating profusely and sporting a five o’clock shadow.
Now, picture Daniels in a debate with Obama. The latter, a fit, energetic man, in love with life and his beautiful wife and daughters, and it shows. The former, a pale, balding, cuckholded, very wealthy, but somewhat undernourished-looking former CEO.
One cannot help being reminded of the JFK/Nixon debate and its outcome. What was said during that debate was less important that how the candidates looked. The only thing that made the 1960 election close was the fact that Nixon was a moderate Republican, by today’s standards. I think we have had our share of gloom and doom from the GOP during this primary season. Hearing more of it from Daniels will not help the GOoPers chances in November.
