Homeschooling idiot Rick Santorum has decided that institutions for higher learning are Indoctrinating students. For the love of F*&k all is this man for real? Rant to follow..
I have been a avid reader all my life. Books, magazines, the interwebs, all of it. I have 2 degrees from a community college and I must admit, learning new things is one of the most wonderful experiences presented to us as human beings. The stagnation of the mind is both oppressive and regressive.
I look forward every day to reading or learning something new. Something I didn't know yesterday. Every piece of knowledge I am able to store in my brain is a gift. A precious gift that I hold dearly. Perhaps its because no one can take my knowledge away from me that I treasure it so much. No matter what nonsense it spewed forth from someone else's mouth, I know I can READ about it. I can do research and find out FACTS on an issue, I can then THINK about how I feel about it. Another favorite activity I find enjoying is opposition research. How do others feel? How did they come to their conclusions? Is there anything we agree on?
Expanding your knowledge about anything may not qualify you to be an expert, but isn't knowing a little bit about any subject fun? You may be able to engage in a conversation with others whose opinions and ideas differ from yours and isn't that indeed enlighting?
Being around people with different perspectives, people of differing races, ideas and outlooks on life, has enriched me with a knowledge I find priceless. Colleges do that. They teach. They make you use your brain.
Indocrtination on the other hand requires a firm, concrete set of ideals to be followed.
Suffering the consequences for failure can be much more lethal to humans that reading a book.
